Lots of votes so far to pick plural of Toyota Prius

Priusx-large

Just when you thought you could go awhile without election news, along comes Toyota with its call for balloting to designate how you say the plural of the Prius hybrid. So far, 47,000 votes have been cast on Prius' Facebook page, spokeswoman Zoe Zeigler says.

Wow, that's quite a following in just the couple of weeks since the expanded Prius family made its debut at the North American International Auto Show. Besides the original Prius, the family includes an electric version, the Prius V family crossover and the Prius C sporty prototype.

And which plural name is most popular so far? Prii seems to be the big winner so far, with 40% of the ballots cast. It is followed by Priuses, 27%; Prius, 15%; Prium, 11%; and Prien, 8%.

But there's still plenty of time to vote. The official winner won't be announced until Feb. 20 at the Chicago Auto Show. Toyota vows to use the name in its official news releases in the future on the Prius, er, Prii, um, Prien.
